Focus on business and international debate on the future of the farming supply chain

Verona, 1st February 2020. More than 132,000 visitors, 15% from abroad, 900 companies from 20 different countries covering 67,000 square metres of exhibition space, trade delegations from 30 nations, 800 heads of livestock and 130 technical conferences programmed.  These are the numbers recorded at today’s closure of Verona’s 114th Fieragricolo: the show specifically for the farming sector and an Italian and European reference point. The four days of the show featured all the players involved in the agricultural supply chain, attracting visitors from all over the country with a considerable increase of those from south and north-west Italy.

Ten halls in all, subdivided into mechanization, animal farming, animal feed, specialized crops, renewable energy, agro-chemicals, fertilizers and seeds, with greater focus on areas for poultry farming, pig breeding and dairy farming.

«This year’s edition reasserted the value of our transversal format», said Maurizio Danese, President of Veronafiere. «The merit also goes to the increasingly more complete offer thanks to new and important partnerships with supply chain associations, such as the poultry farming association. Moreover, Fieragricola confirmed its role as a place for international debate on the challenges that European agriculture is having to face on the innovation, sustainability and circular economy front».

The new European Green Deal with its impacts on the agricultural world and on the CAP was, in fact, the main theme at Fieragricola 2020, together with a closer look at the development opportunities of agri-business in Africa. Both topics were discussed by companies, farming unions, associations and institutions.  A debate which saw the participation of the Minister for Agricultural Policies, Teresa Bellanova, and the Croatian Minister of Agriculture, Marija Vučković, who is presiding over the European Union’s Council of Agriculture Ministers in the first six months of 2020. In fact, Croatia was the guest nation at the 114th edition of Fieragricola in its bid to increase internationality.

«Veronafiere has invested greatly this year in international buyer incoming activities in collaboration with Ice-Agenzia and Federunacoma, focusing on the Alpe-Adria region, the Balkans and on 17 African states» explained Giovanni Mantovani, General Manager of Veronafiere. «In addition to its more traditional role as a trade show, we want Fieragricola to develop and become more of a platform for demand, represented by carefully selected foreign traders from target markets. At the same time, we are making every effort to take Italian enterprises abroad and we are, in fact, already working towards the Agricultural Show in Morocco, scheduled to take place in April at Siam di Meknés, where training for local experts will also be making a debut with courses given by the Fieragricola Academy».

Lastly, Fieragricola 2020 staged and boosted internationality with animal farming events and prizes thanks to the return of the European Swiss Brown Contest and the 19th Dairy Open Holstein Show.

Fieragricola will be back for another edition in 2022.
