8% of gas consumption in Italy from bio-methane. On paper
With 160 million tonnes of organic waste, offcuts and agro-industrial derivates, zero kilometre bio-methane has a potential of 6.5 billion cubic metres, equal to about 8% of natural gas consumption in Italy. This is suggested by studies conducted by Legambiente, that identify three types of use: gas mains for residential consumption; bio-fuel delivery systems for transport; with co-generation power stations where activities requiring heat are present all year round. Legislation defining incentives and mains network connection modes is awaited. Crpa Bio-Methane Convention at Bioenergy Expo on Friday 3 February 2012 (VeronaFiere, Hall 10, 15.00 p.m.).
